Psalm 92 is associated with the Sabbath day. Thanking God for His goodness and faithfulness and pointing out His great works and profound thoughts. He contrasts the wicked who do not know God with the righteous who praise and trust God because of their knowledge of God.

In verses 1-6, the psalmist gives thanks and calls worshippers to use musical instruments to praise God for His steadfast love and faithfulness. The reason in verse 4 is for what God has done, “the works of your hands” that causes him to “sing for joy.” In verses 5-6, he praises God for His greatness and profundity that fools cannot know or comprehend.

We are called to give thanks to God for His goodness and faithfulness. To use musical instruments to sing praises to Him. We use different musical instruments to worship God on Sunday, but worshippers do not sing praises to God. Many who stand in the pews do not move their lips at all. It makes you wonder why they would come to church if they are not singing praises to the God they come to worship.

Let us worship and call others to worship God like the psalmist. He is enthusiastic about coming to the house of the Lord to worship Him. To help us, he gave reasons for us to praise the Lord. Unless we do not know or cannot comprehend what God has done for us, then we are in the wrong place. We come to the Sunday service to worship God and not stare into space. We might be in the wrong place if we do not know the purpose of the worship service.

In verses 7-9, the psalmist said that God will judge his enemies. Even though the evildoers are flourishing like grass in the field, they will perish forever. God rules over the earth and He judges the evildoers. In verses 10-11, the psalmist claims to have experienced God’s goodness and seen the downfall of His enemies. He has heard of the doom of the evildoers and is sure that he will see God’s goodness and faithfulness afresh again.

In verses 12-15, he believes he will see God’s blessing in his life again. God will bless the righteous to flourish like “the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” They will continue to bear fruit into their old age. The God who is righteous and good is their rock and protector. He would continue to bless them with a fruitful life.

The psalmist warns that God will judge those who do not know Him and those who are His enemies. They might prosper on earth now, but they will die in eternity because they have not seen or experienced the goodness and faithfulness of God to know or believe in Him. As for those who have, like the psalmist, they will see afresh God’s goodness and faithfulness to them as they continue to put their trust in Him.

Thanking and praising God is a declaration of our trust in God. We are telling others that we believe that God will continue to bless and protect us. If we cannot praise and thank God, it may be that we do not know Him, and so we cannot put our trust in Him. If we know Him, then let us praise Him and put our trust in Him.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I praise and put my trust wholly in you, for you are a good and faithful God in the past, and in the future. I believe you will continue to show your goodness and faithfulness to those who put their trust in you.
