King of the world, King from all eternity! This is the proclamation of the psalmist, and a reminder that God has always reigned and will always reign. There was never a moment in history when God was not sovereign over the universe. His robe is not of fabric and ornaments, but of majesty. His battle weapons are not sword and spear, but of strength.

The psalmist paints a vivid picture of the floods rising and roaring. The waters crash and thunder, threatening to overwhelm. In Ancient Near East times, water was a symbol of chaos and fear. Yet even the mightiest wave or the most terrifying storm is nothing compared to the Lord. God is mightier than the tallest and biggest tsunami, stronger than the loudest crash of waters. Everything that overwhelms us and cause us fear are still under His control.

God’s decrees stand firm, unshaken by time or circumstance. His dwelling place is holy, because His very presence fills it. And this truth brings us comfort: since the Lord reigns, the world is secure. When challenges roar like floods and when chaos threatens to swallow us, we can take refuge in the One who reigns above it all.

And how should we respond to our God who reigns? We trust Him. We cling to Him. We worship Him as the eternal King who is always near.

Where in your life right now do you feel the waters rising? Know that God is mightier than that. Where in your life do you need guidance? Trust in God whose throne has been established from eternity, and may his eternal reign give you confidence. God’s house is holy because His presence fills it. Live your life set apart, that you may welcome and honour His presence.

No matter how fierce the storms, God’s throne is always and forever secure. Our lives may be shaken, but our King never is. Rest in His majesty, trust in His strength, and walk in the confidence that the One who reigns from all eternity reigns still today. Trust in Him and live holy lives in His presence. May you stand firm not in your own strength, but in the majesty and strength of the King who reigns forever.

Prayer:

Majestic King, You reign above the floods and over every storm. When fear rises and chaos surrounds me, remind me that You are mightier still. Help me to trust Your eternal throne, to rest in Your unshakable Word, and to live a life set apart in Your presence. You reign forever! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
