Missions Overview

What is Missions?

John Piper wrote: worship is the goal and the fuel of missions: Missions exists because worship doesn’t.

Jesus died on the cross as the Lamb Of God who takes away the sin of the world, and 3 days later rose from the dead and is now exalted and seated on the throne with God, worthy to receive worship “because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God.” (Rev 5:9-10)

“…these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” (Isaiah 56:7)

As the Body of Christ, the local church not only engages in evangelism and discipleship, but Jesus gave clear commands to His disciples for the work of global Mission:

a) “Go into all the world and “proclaim the gospel to the whole creation” Mark 16:15

b) “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” Acts 1:8

c) “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Matt 28:19

Scope of Missions

To this end, we have a Mission Committee to lead our members and steward their resources to be involved in and to support God’s work of mission to reach all nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our Mission Committee will help raise awareness, rally prayer for and channel financial support to labourers in selected harvest fields of missions. Nevertheless, the goal is still to make disciples of all nations and to be empowered as Jesus’ witnesses to the ends of the earth.

Currently, we are involved with ministries in about 7 countries through partnering with mission organizations. With the presence of migrant workers in Singapore, God has also opened a door of opportunity to do missions at our doorstep.
