The Joy of Abiding in God’s Presence

Who or what do you turn to in times of difficulty?
Some of us may seek help from professionals or lean on trusted friends. Others, at their wit’s end, may even turn to things or people that cannot truly help—“other gods” that ultimately disappoint.
But in Psalm 16, we see a different response. David turns to the LORD, his God. He begins with a bold confession: “You are my LORD; I have no good apart from you.” David acknowledges that every blessing in his life—everything positive and life-giving—comes from God. He also finds great joy in the company of those who walk with God, identifying himself with the saints in the land.
In the face of uncertainty and hardship, David’s security lies not in circumstances or people around him, but in his relationship with God. He trusts that God alone determines the course of his life and provides everything he needs. His response is not passive; rather, he chooses to remain close to God, to walk in His ways, and to worship Him with a full and grateful heart.
Because God is his Lord and giver of every good thing, David experiences inward joy and unwavering confidence. His heart is glad, and his whole being rejoices—not because life is without trial, but because the presence of God is his anchor and delight. In knowing that God is near, David lives with wholehearted devotion and worship.
We, too, are invited into the same assurance. Do we recognise that God is our ever-present help? He is not only our Creator, but the One who, in flesh, came near, and who now dwells in us by His Spirit. He is with us at every moment—past, present, and future—and we can trust Him in all seasons and in every circumstance.
How wonderful it is to know that our God will never leave us nor forsake us! How wonderful it is to trust in Him for every aspect of life. May we continually turn our eyes to Him, rest in His presence, and walk in His ways. And as we abide in Him, may we, like David, experience the fullness of joy.
Prayer :
Dear God, thank you, because you are our ever-present God. Thank you, for being my refuge and joy. You are faithful in every season, You are near in every moment. Help me to turn to you daily, to find security, joy, and complete satisfaction in Your presence. Teach me to delight in Your ways, to trust in Your guidance, and to walk with You wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
