Sharing

When was the last time you shared how you came to know Jesus? When was the last time you spoke of how God convicted you of sin and drew you to His forgiveness? When was the last time you testified of how God redeemed you in a particular season of your life? And when was the last time you told these stories to your children, or even your grandchildren?

Psalm 78 reminds us of the importance of passing on the testimony of God’s goodness to our children and our children’s children. The psalmist calls us to tell the next generation about God: about who He is, His covenant love, His character, and the mighty works He has done. We are to speak of His power, His glory, His grace, His mercy, His love, and His salvation. These are not just for story-telling sake, but to recount of the truths so that our next generations may live their lives in obedience to God.

What did Psalm 78 recount? Psalm 78 told of Israel’s failures. God provided fo His people. He had brought His people out of Egypt, provided food and shelter, and faithfully led them through the wilderness. He brought them into the land of promise. But Israel rebelled. They tested God, turned to idols, and walked away from Him. In His discipline, God allowed them to pursue their own ways, and their choices led to destruction. Yet even then, God’s mercy did not fail. He continued to provide a way back, reminding His people of His covenant love.

Today, we know that human leaders, even King David, could not fully bring about the salvation God’s people needed. But where David fell short, Jesus fulfilled God’s perfect will. Jesus is the true Shepherd and the eternal King. Through His death and resurrection, He secured redemption for all who believe in Him.

This is our story too. God has redeemed us from our rebellion and turned our hearts toward Him. He has given us hope and eternal life in Christ. The question is: will we tell it? Will we pass on God’s story of redemption so that others may set their hope in Him? Will we speak of His saving grace to our children and our children’s children, so that generations to come will continue to trust, obey, and worship the Lord?

Prayer:

Dear Father, thank You for Your faithfulness throughout the generations. Thank You for redeeming me in Christ and giving me a story of grace and mercy to tell. Give me courage to share my salvation story, especially with the next generation. May they come to know You, love You, and walk in Your ways. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
