God is always with us

Psalm 74 draws us into a time of lament, reminding us that God’s glory does not fade, nor does He abandon His people. He dwells in the midst of struggles, even among enemies such as Babylon (verses 1-3). The enemy prepares for destruction, boasting proudly in their seeming victory (verses 4-8). In the midst of this (verses 9-12). We, like the psalmist, might cry out, where are you, God? How long until you come and save us? Yet, God’s sovereignty is unmatched, and the creator’s power is evident (verses 13-17). The psalm turns into a prayer for God’s intervention to stand beside His people in difficulty, fight for the weak, and protect His covenant people from ongoing oppression (verses 18-23). This is a meditation on enduring severe hardship in the face of enemies while holding firmly to faith that God will fight for His people, carry them through cruel days, and bring ultimate victory in the end.
In life, we all go through situations where it is hard to find joy, and we ask God, “Why am I facing this difficult situation?” This passage draws us to seek God as our center and our victory, turning our will and thoughts toward Him, the true Savior who comes with peace.
God is sovereign, who created the world, who knows every system and phenomenon, who formed the wonders of nature, and who commands the wind.
The point is this: God, whom we love, is with us. May we be grateful to Him, even in situations we cannot fully understand or endure on our own. No matter what, God is with us, in our pain, and in our joy. He is always there, and He will be with us in our victories. But we must trust Him, and remember that He leads us through both the bad and the good. He is the same God who remains with us always, no matter what.
First, when those moments come, pause and check our thoughts, ask ourselves, “Is this thought filled with grace?” If not, choose to redirect our focus by putting God at the center. Remember, He is the One who goes before us.
Second, slow down our worries and fears. Remind ourselves that God is faithful. Place Him at the center of struggles, trust His guidance, and walk with Him in the present moment.
Third, pray for His intervention. Ask that, by His Spirit, we may overcome every weakness. Continue to give thanks, remembering His grace, He is the Creator, all-powerful, and the One who brings ultimate victory.
Prayer:
Dear God, I pray that I will remain faithful even in the midst of hardship. I truly need You with me every step of the way so that I may have peace, and at the same time never forget Your grace, always giving thanks to You. God, I love You so much. Please lead me in every step I take, that I may walk in Your path, follow Your ways, and live according to Your word. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
