Living With Integrity Before God

Psalm 26 invites us to consider this: how we live reveals whom we aim to please. David, the psalmist, finds himself falsely accused and turns to the only Judge who truly matters—God Himself. He pleads, “Vindicate me, O Lord,” not because he claims perfection, but because he has walked in integrity and trusted in the Lord without wavering.

The word vindicate is a legal term, a call for favourable judgment and affirmation. David boldly invites the Lord to examine him, to test his heart and mind. This is not the plea of someone trying to impress others—it is the cry of a heart that longs to be known and approved by God.

At the heart of integrity is a willingness to be known for who we truly are. David’s prayer shows that he was not living for the approval of people, but for the approval of God. He walks in God’s faithfulness, delights in the house of the Lord, and seeks to stand on level ground—secure, honest, and unashamed before his Maker.

For many of us, this kind of prayer can be unsettling. Are we ready for the Lord to search our hearts? What might He find? At times, it’s easier to hide—behind spiritual apathy, behind busy lives, or even behind respectable church routines. But God desires more than surface appearances; He desires our hearts.

He wants us to be known by Him, not to shame us, but to fill us—with His love, His purity, and His truth. He wants us to hate what He hates, and love what He loves. He wants our hearts to beat with His passions: to love His people, His church, His righteousness, and His glory.

So let us ask ourselves: Do I love the church—not just the idea of it, but the people in it? Do I love those outside the church—those whom Jesus came to seek and save? Do I love the things of God more than the approval of people?

Wholehearted devotion is not simply about knowing the right things. It is about inviting God to search us and shape us. A life of integrity is not lived by accident—it is the result of daily, intentional choices to walk with God and live for His pleasure.

May this be the desire of our hearts.

Prayer:

Dear Father, search my heart and know my heart. I confess that it is easier to seek the approval of people than to walk in true integrity before You. Forgive me for the times I have chosen convenience over conviction. Help me, Lord, to love what You love and hate what You hate. Fill me with Your joy, Your truth, and Your courage to live each day in a way that pleases You. May I delight in Your house, walk in Your faithfulness, and live with a wholehearted devotion that reflects Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
